This exhilarating 5-day journey is expertly designed to combine Kenya’s iconic savannah spectacle with a classic coastal finale. You’ll spend two immersive days tracking the Big Five in the world-renowned Maasai Mara, then transition seamlessly into Tsavo East’s vast red-dust plains, famous for its “red elephants” and formidable lions. The adventure culminates with serene relaxation on Mombasa’s sun-kissed beaches or exploration of its vibrant marine park. The itinerary is strategically planned to minimize backtracking and maximize your time for wildlife viewing and coastal enjoyment, ensuring a true progressive journey from Kenya’s southwest to its southeast.
Itinerary
- Morning: Fly from Nairobi (Wilson Airport) to Maasai Mara (approx. 45-60 min flight).
- Afternoon: Transfer to camp/lodge, enjoy lunch, and embark on your first game drive, seeking the Big Five and other plains game.
- Evening: Sundowner, dinner, and overnight in Maasai Mara.
- Full Day: Comprehensive morning and afternoon game drives for prime predator viewing and diverse wildlife.
- Optional: Hot air balloon safari at sunrise or a cultural visit to a Maasai village.
- Evening: Dinner and overnight in Maasai Mara.
- Morning: Optional final game drive. After breakfast, fly from Maasai Mara to Tsavo East (approx. 2.5-4 hrs flight including connection via Nairobi Wilson).
- Afternoon: Arrive at Tsavo East, transfer to lodge, and enjoy an evening game drive, looking for "red elephants" and other wildlife.
- Evening: Dinner and overnight near Tsavo East NP.
- Morning: Morning game drive in Tsavo East, followed by brunch.
- Late Morning: Road transfer from Tsavo East to Mombasa (approx. 2-3 hrs).
- Afternoon & Evening: Arrive at your beachfront hotel in Mombasa. Leisure time for swimming, snorkeling, or relaxing on the white-sand beach. Dinner and overnight.
- Morning: Breakfast at hotel. Choose between:
- Marine Park Excursion: Glass-bottom boat or snorkeling at Mombasa Marine National Park.
- City & Old Town Walk: Explore Fort Jesus (UNESCO site), Old Town, and Bombolulu Workshops.
- Midday: Coastal lunch.
- Afternoon: Transfer to Moi International Airport (MBA) for departure.
